Your ADHD treasures

We all make choices in life. If you have ADHD, one of your choices is deciding if you’re going to view the condition as a liability—or as an asset.

At a party I recently attended, I found myself in conversation with a grandmother who was certain her granddaughter’s ADHD would ruin the child’s life. She was very upset by her granddaughter’s diagnosis and was convinced that ADHD was a recipe for unavoidable disaster.

It’s just not true.

We all make choices in life. If you have ADHD, one of your choices is deciding if you’re going to view the condition as a liability—or as an asset. I have always approached ADHD as an asset to be managed and nurtured. I help my clients understand how their brains work, how ADHD affects their daily lives and how to find solutions to the everyday issues they’ll encounter.

What if we viewed the active, bright children diagnosed with ADHD as gifted? Would they grow up feeling more positive, productive and self-confident? We just need to harness the chaotic beast within! Here are samples from a list I use when working with my clients. If you have ADHD, perhaps some of these traits will resonate:

ENERGETIC
CHARISMATIC
GUTSY
INTUITIVE
TENACIOUS
INTELLIGENT
SOLID UNDER PRESSURE
GOOD LISTENER
COURAGEOUS
IDEA GENERATOR

Take time to make a list of your assets. Be flexible—the list may grow and change as you discover the wonderful parts and pieces that make up your body, mind and soul.
