Prenatal Anxiety

Whether healthy or high-risk, long-awaited or unexpected, pregnancy is difficult for many women. A history of miscarriages, fluctuating hormones and reduced dosages of psychiatric meds can all trigger prenatal depression and lead to:

  • Not gaining enough weight

  • Missing important prenatal visits

  • Substance abuse with serious consequences for your baby

  • Premature birth or low birthweight

I can help you manage the physical and hormonal changes, along with the stress and fears that well up during pregnancy. I listen with a non-judgmental ear so you can safely express your fears, disappointments and concerns.

Postpartum Depression

Fluctuating hormones, exhaustion and having a new little person in your life can be overwhelming. It is common for mothers to worry about their newborn baby and their new responsibilities. However, women affected by postpartum depression develop excessively negative feelings. While postpartum depression can occur anytime in the first year after birth, it usually occurs within the first three months of delivery. Common symptoms include:

  • Sadness and hopelessness

  • Low self-esteem

  • Social withdrawal

  • Low energy and fatigue

  • Feelings of inadequacy

NICU Support

Parents get excited about bringing their new baby home and starting their new lives together. But if their baby is born prematurely, or there are complications during delivery, or if the baby struggles in those first crucial days of life, the baby might be sent to the NICU.

When a baby needs intensive care, the dreams of new parents have to be put on hold. They feel anxious, frightened and confused during this traumatic time.

I provide counseling and emotional support to parents who are coping with the emotions new parents experience when their babies get off to a rough start.

Miscarriage & Bereavement

Miscarriage can and does happen to any woman, regardless of race, health, age or income.

The loss of a pregnancy through miscarriage or the death of a newborn is devastating. At first, parents can experience emptiness and denial. As these emotions fade, anger and guilt usually set in. Each of these emotions are part of the process we call grief, and it can become overwhelming.

I have years of experience helping mothers through their grief. You don’t have to face it alone.
